New Knife

When I was a boy my Army dad was stationed in Alaska. Since he knew I was into hunting he bought me a set of knives. They were in a twin scabbard and really nice. He gave them to me as a Christmas gift. I was very proud.

Not long after I got them I decided that I would try throwing them. It wasn’t long before I hit a knot in the board and broke the tip off the knife.

I was heartbroken but didn’t want to admit to my dad that I had broken his gift. I was ashamed that I had broken it misusing it. So I stopped using it so he wouldn’t find out.

Sad. A great gift but unused and hidden. I am sure he wondered why I didn’t use his gift. He was probably hurt and confused that I didn’t.

I wonder if our Heavenly Father is hurt and confused over our use of His Christmas gift.
