AMEN–The End?

AMEN—The End?

In many churches, there is a rush for the door at the final Amen or benediction.

       Nothing wrong with that.

But at church on Sunday, I noticed something a little different.   There was a rush for the door, but a substantial percentage of people did not.    They were taking the time to form small clusters and check in with one another.

“How did your week go?  How is your move going?   It will take years to get settled.

       How is that Grandson doing?”

Just people checking in with friends.  Some groups are huddled in prayer.

After a time, groups would break up as others formed.  People sharing lives.  Connecting.  We came to worship and focus on our Spiritual lives, but also had time to build community.

One of the last comments I overheard was

“I didn’t see _______ today.  I’d better give them a call and see how they are doing.”

Over time, the groups shifted,  dwindled, and moved toward the door, often with a hug.

In addition to songs, sermons, prayers, and communion, Community is a valuable resource for the struggling attendee. Community is also church. A vital aspect of the Church.  Don’t miss it.

Hang around. “Amen” may not mean it’s over. You may find that a lot of church goes on in the lobby between, before, and after Worship.
