I am not a prophet.
I am not a scholar.
I am not even a good man.
I am a retired pastor.

When I retired from full time pastoral work at the age of 68 I begin to reflect on the Church and Christianity.  When I retired from from part time ministry at the age of 73, I began to reflect more.  Some things bothered me.  I guess the lesson is,  you should pause along the way and reflect rather than simply being too busy and getting caught up with things as they are.

If you see things differently from me that is fine.   Jesus may be leading you along a different path.   It is not that you are wrong and I am right.  We see things differently. Peter, Paul and John all followed Jesus but they certainly went along different paths.

I attend a great church and have a great pastor but I am not naive enough to think that all is well with the evangelical church in America.  In fact there are several things that bother me about it.  They will probably be reflected in these post.

My background is Southern Baptist.  Although I started in the Bible Belt I have been away from it for years.   That has given me a different perspective.  I am reminded of how different when I return “home” and visit churches and talk to pastors and church leadership.

I guess I could be called a DISCONTENTED CHRISTIAN.  Not discontented with Jesus.   He has proven faithful.   But I am discontented with how we Americans express our faith and with the state of the institutional church.

I think we could do better.   Think about it.  You probably do also.
